Sokor gold field is CNMC Goldmine Limited's flagship project and is considered to be the next most prospective but undeveloped hard rock gold mining area in Malaysia, apart from the Mamut Mine in Sabah and the Penjom Mine in Pahang. Once developed, Sokor gold field will be one of the largest gold mines in West Malaysia.
Commercial gold production is forecast to commence during the first half of 2010.
The Sokor gold field consisting of an area of 2,370 acres is located in the District of Tanah Merah, Kelantan, Malaysia. Access to the area is by traveling 25km southwest from the town of Tanah Merah to Kampong Bukit Pauh via Kampong Gual Ipoh and a further 27km along a well-maintained logging track to Sungai Ketubong.
The area is underlain by mildly metamorphosed volcanoes of Permian and Triassic age. The Permian rocks are found more towards the eastern part of the area and consist predominantly of phyllite with intercalated limestone, slate, metasandstone and schist. These are overlain by a Triassic sequence of mainly acid to intermediate tuffs and flows, which are largely exposed at the western edge of the area.
A combination of large haul trucks, excavators and shovels will be utilized in this open-pit mining operation.
Sokor Gold Zone
Exploration within Sokor Gold Zone's 30,000 acres of exploration license is specifically aimed at demonstrating the mineral resource and ore reserve potential.
Lying within the same gold occurrence area as Sokor Gold Field, gold mineralization in this area, we believe, shares many of the distinct geological characteristics as Sokor Gold Field.
Numerous gold deposits have been discovered in the surrounding Sokor areas, and several have reported good gold resources content.
An exploration program comprising data acquisition, geological mapping, soil sampling, geochemistry and ground geophysics is underway.
Reserve development and replacement of production is a major priority at all sites. CNMC Goldmine Limited is committed to funding its exploration programs consistently throughout all gold cycle.
